Siren Song - Laboratory Workshop
Workshop in Stavanger, Norway
Siren Song was a pilot project and process-oriented laboratory workshop exploring music creation and the relationship between creativity, the arts, the ocean, and mental well-being.
The workshop created a safe space for six female musicians to pause, reflect, and listen closely to their surroundings, and transforming inspiration into improvised music.
In response to the constant noise and competing sounds of modern urban life, the workshop approached listening as a way to slow down, become more aware of one’s surroundings, and connect with others.
The process moved from focused listening and perception to reflection, group conversation, and sensory awareness, before culminating in the creative translation of these experiences into improvised music and soundscapes.
In this way, the workshop explored how attentive listening and shared reflection could become both a creative method and a source of connection and well-being.
The project was initiated by Swinging Europe, a Denmark-based NGO and the main organisation behind the project concept. The pilot was developed across Denmark, Norway, and Sweden in collaboration with local artistic directors.
The project is funded by Nordic Culture Point, Swinging Europe, Triskelion and Well-Being Lab Sweden.
